About the Artist

Cori O’Connor is a mixed media artist living and working in Chicago Illinois. She is originally from Gainesville Florida and spent some time living in Colorado before moving to the Midwest. Cori has been inspired by art and nature from an early age. Growing up on a farm in rural North Central Florida exposed Cori to many experiences that influence her art and esthetic. Death, rebirth, and renewal are recurring themes in her work.
Cori graduated from the University of Florida in 2008 with a BFA in ceramic sculpture. She also attended the Haystack Mountain School of Craft in the summer of 2007 to study with renowned sculptor Tip Toland. After graduating, Cori was a resident artist at the Doris Barton Center for the Arts in Gainesville Florida.
As a queer woman Cori has a passion for fighting oppression and discrimination and elevating the voices of marginalized groups. Through her work she also hopes to bring visibility to and foster discussion around issues such as mental illness and social justice.
